About time these two got together on a title that speaks volumes about this weekend’s events. Remix by Dallask also available up on soundcloud. Swiss plays TKVR Jan 29 and Feb 3 w/ Skrillex.

Swiss Chriss – “The Kids Are Hungry”

July 20, 2010

A brand new single from New Orleans producer and TKVR resident Swiss Chriss. Hard electro in the vein of Harvard Bass, heavy on the abrasive synth and relentless in it’s beat. Swiss hits a sweet balance of uncluttered noisy electro with some of the slicker production in the electro game today. Bonus points to anyone that can identify the vocal sample!

2 New Swiss Chriss Remixes

June 23, 2010

New Orleans electro producer and TKVR resident Swiss Chriss just released a duo of remixes for Swedish rapper Adam Tensta‘s new group St. John’s Dance and for the new Mickey Factz single ‘Alpha‘. Hard electro and rap, a match made in heaven. Swiss has an EP of originals set for release either late summer or early fall.

Mardi Gras Update!

February 15, 2010

Party til you puke!

Mardi Gras New Orleans is in full swing, and I couldn’t be more confused and disoriented! There’s a bunch of friendly strangers intermittently fast asleep in my living room(including an Italian who loves Crookers!), and my roommates appear to be locked into some sort of bead and alcohol coma, their legs weary from walking miles of parade route weighed down with countless gloriously shiny strands of beads. It’s as if for one week every year, New Orleans gives a free pass to its residents and tourists to dress like a last minute halloween mashup of Siegfried ‘n’ Roy and Elton John and forget their responsibility to remember their responsibilities.

Wednesday pretty much kicked things off for me. Mickey Factz show with Aquaforce and Lyriqs at Ampersand was a little thin crowd-wise, but I got to meet a bunch of peeps, and even a Deftjams fan! Great vibe, and MOS DEF rolled up and chilled for most of show, which had me feeling pretty Hollywood.

Midnight Conspiracy

Swiss Chriss

On Thursday, the homies Midnight Conspiracy came into town for a show with Swiss Chriss and DS@STR on Republic‘s LEGIT Thursday. There must have been something in the water(or the free vodka) because everyone up in Republic was flyin’ high! DS@STR had the set of his career, Swiss Chriss killed it and I’ve really gotta hand it to Midnight Conspiracy, they set a new standard for goin’ ham in the booth. THE REAL WORLD: New Orleans cast showed up and partied for the whole evening. On one hand, I’ve got some sympathy for them, as they are drug tested and so basically screwed into getting hammered on camera any time they want to party. On the other hand I’m sure they’re all getting a lot of booty, so they probably aren’t complaining. Big ups to KGB for throwing an awesome party. Speaking of BIG UPS…

Starkey

DS@STR

A very red green room

Starkey came in for a show at One Eyed Jack’s in the heart of the French Quarter last night(Friday). DS@STR managed to get his STARKEY “A Millie” remix signed by with a sick “Big Ups” personalization. The parades uptown went super late and that combined with the parking situation kept a ton of peeps out of the quarter, which was a bummer, but DS@STR for the second night in a row threw down a super solid, hour and a half mix. UPRISE came in from Atlanta and pretty much blew away any DJ/DRUMMER combo I’ve seen. Super sweet dudes and their homie Julie from a venue which I can’t quite remember the name of in Five Points was a seriously down to earth chick. Remember what I said about Midnight Conspiracy goin’ ham in the booth? Forget what I said, because Starkey is a MADMAN! Honest to god he must have burned at leask 2k calories during the set. Thanks to Reeves for putting on a very chill, very heavy show.

UPDATE: I wrote this last part yesterday, and things got even crazier last night. Diplo dropped a retarded set down at The Saint, which doubles as both the hippest and and sketchiest bar in New Orleans. Seriously, the man’s set is untouchable. Unfortunately I was too wasted to even snap a camera phone picture of the whole event so if any of you have any visual proof of this spectacle, please share it with me!

“Mitsubitchi” – The Subs

February 10, 2010

Don’t you love it when the DJ drops a banger you’ve never heard before and the crowd immediately goes nuts. Maybe for the rest of the country, the thrill has worn off. You’re cities are getting saturated with electro parties and for every new DJ or producer that shows up on the scene, there’s another talking head intent on nitpicking their look, DJ technique, or some other aspect of the culture that really has zero impact on the quality of the party.

When Swiss Chriss dropped The Subs’ “Mitsubichi” at Electronic Takeover this Saturday, there was no one talking in hushed tones in the back of the room, only sweaty throngs of dancers shoved up against the DJ table going harder than they ever had before, and for good reason; void of pretension-filled consciousness, da brain makes space for a beat-centered mindset. Synth highs fly by and circle back in flocks of light speed gunfire miles above a trance-inducing bassline that half-marches and skips through the track. Welcome to the party. All are invited.

Electronic Takeover 1/16/10 Photo Review

January 18, 2010

Last night’s Electronic Takeover party quelled any doubts about the viability of electro parties in New Orleans. Swiss Chriss, DS@STR, and Lemonhead bumped the party way harder than any previous ET party. DS@STR will be posting his mix from last night shortly. I’m still in disbelief about the turnout(320+). No rest for the weary though, as myself, Max and Swiss are already hard at work planning the next ET show February 6th at The Maison. Check out the rest of the photos HERE.

SB Dunks (Swiss Chriss remix) – G-Eazy

December 10, 2009

In what is the first of what will hopefully be a long string of intra-NOLA remixes, Boston transplant Swiss Chriss remixes G-Eazy‘s subterranean VIP jam SB Dunks into a certified club banger. Ummm did that machine gun synth really just drop? WTF. I’ve also got some very special artwork for the single. That’s G and Chris on stage at Republic Throwback while Damion Yancy drops the remix for the very first time this past November.

What do I remember from December 5th? Bits and pieces. Flashing lights. Shots. Blunts. Bass. Pretty standard fare for a Saturday here I guess. Luckily I’ve got the photos to jog my memory. I made it to Frat House Uptown first for Swiss Chriss/Aquaforce/DS@STR set. Good crowd, everyone was having fun. DS@STR set the mood: fucking grimy. Aquaforce’s stage presence was undeniable, and their flow was tight despite their energy.

I left for Cafe Prytania during Swiss Chriss and managed to catch Power 102.9’s Mike Swift introducing G-Eazy. They shut that shit down. Shit, was shut down. Shut->DOWN. Shit. G’s flow was on point and the backing tracks sounded beast in the mix. Franco‘s onstage guitar cameo was short but sweet. Everybody in the building was fucked up, and there was a visible cloud of weed smoke wafting along the ceiling tiles. I remember some things. I remember opening my tab. I do not remember closing my tab. At either club… Tight sets from all parties involved.

12/5/09 was a turning point not just for music, but for attitudes. Things are changing, and people are learning how to party again. 2010 is the year.

BTW check out “Wolves” from Aquaforce’s upcoming “The Burgundy Mixtape”.
