The Buttons – Keeping NOLA On Pace

by

I knew you had it in you New Orleans. While we’re generally forced to slosh through knee deep waters of mediocrity in our little sub-sea city, The Buttons break the mold, coaxing soul from synth and filling that glaring void between Afrika Bambaataa and Neon Indian. What’s more beautiful is the group’s mastery on so many levels of song-making. Their beats hit a sweet spot, the melodies are undeniable, and the arrangements are pop-perfect. The duo just put out a video for “Roller Rock”, filmed at Skate Country Westbank. The production quality is excellent but I’m lukewarm on the video overall. I was hoping for something a little more original than the generic retro-throwback pick a geeky sport and make a video about it. Thumbs up for the use of smoke machines though. “Night” takes on a considerably more menacing tone; visions of pharaohs, they demand sacrifice!
