Islands “Switched On”

“Switched On” is a story of redemption. The track begins with an extremely promising rhythm and guitar/piano combo but all too quickly gives way to contrived vocal melodies that “drip with disdain” in much the same way as Vampire Weekend. Too much the same way in fact. But the muted tribal rhythms and undeniably hummable melody bring this song back. I’ve got to give it to Islands, this is some good melancholic pop regardless of my preference of vocal styling. Check Out “Switched On” from their just released album “Vapours” or find more info on them here.
