Emil and Friends

by

Emil and Friends is equal part male fronted Broken Social Scene and quieter MGMT with distant disco basslines and beats that are reminiscent of Talking Heads. The group uses some strange studio techniques but manage to avoid sounding disjointed. The songwriting is just too good to let that happen. Bluesy guitar riffs on top of the smoothly produced vocals are unique. Oddly I found the group while doing a twitter search for Steve Winwood after hearing “Higher Love” at Quizno’s and wondering if peeps were talking to him. Def don’t get that comparison? Check out “Josephine” and “Downed Economy” via Transparent Blog. They’ve got a few more tracks up on their myspace. Sick album artwork by the way.
