Surfer Blood draws endless comparisons, all good

by

Working at the school newspaper has made me unable to write anything but cutlines as these blog titles. Lame. It’s true though, Surfer Blood is one of those bands whose influences are numerous and are pretty easy to pick out, and they’ve got some good ones. Cheap Trick meets Piebald. It’s The Living End of surfer pop. Like The Replacements grandson. Pounds out the melodies that Set Your Goals failed so miserably to deliver on their latest album(not worth linking). The rhythms are a little Silversun Pickups. Like if Fugazi and Quicksand are Surfer Blood’s all too serious older brothers. Hints of “Chutes too Narrow” Shins are obvious at some points. Surfer Blood is most of all crushing and comforting, perseverance in the face of futility. Listen to “Swim(to reach the end)” and “Floating Vibes” here.
