[...] In many ways, glo-fi dominated the 2009 lists of with representation from some of the most successful acts in the curiously fresh sub-genre. While the trend in the indie world is to hop on this bandwagon and listen the shit out of these new, up and coming artists, the trend within the sound is an escape from the group dynamic of an actual band. All of these artists, excluding jj, are solo acts. Production and recording happen by the artists behind the moniker and live performances provide a backing band (Depending on the artist). Whether they could be accused of living in the past by using the elements they grew up with or praised for the seeming “creation” of a new sub-genre that caught fire, the artists of glo-fi seem to be here to stay and look to continue their unprecedented success in 2010. It’s hard to pick a favorite of these flirtatious crossovers, I’m most attracted to the infusion of electronic and instrumental that Memory Tapes and Washed Out offer. So if you’re itching to see what this glo-fi movement is all about, these are the artists you should expose yourself to. Here’s a playlist put together as a “starter kit”. [...]
